To produce quasimonoenergetic ions at high energy coupling via Coulomb explosions, the density profiles of spherical nanocluster targets, composed of two ion species (light and heavy), are optimized. The overall coupling efficiency (summed kinetic energy of the light ions in the highest 1% energy band divided by total kinetic energy of both ions) is numerically computed to exceed 30%.
